THIS HANDBOOK IS A WORK IN PROGRESS! KEEP COMING BACK FOR UPDATES!
HELLO THERE, STRIVER!
I am so excited that you’re part of our cult! In order to help you kick to most fitness ass as possible, please take a moment to read over this Striver Handbook, and bookmark this page.
If you’ve ever been intimidated by standard gym culture… if you’re nervous about the hard work of self-improvement… if you don’t mind hanging out with slightly absurd (but kind!) people, you’ve found your new home. We are the extended fitness family you may not have even known you were missing.
Getting the best possible fitness results is about a lot more than just working out a few times per week. Read on for information on getting started at CYH, making the most of your membership, and catching a few knowledge bombs along the way.
I can’t wait to work with you. And sweat with you. And laugh with you.

BECOMING A STRIVER
NEW TO US? HERE’S HOW TO BEGIN YOUR STRIVER JOURNEY:
Striver Baptism- These are your introductory classes and are important for a number of reasons. Safety & Technique- It is very common for people to get injured when they begin a new workout regimen, so your initial classes are designed to ensure your safety. We will take time to break down all the movement patterns that you will be doing so you can nail your form.
Nutrition- We believe that you simply can’t out-train your diet! No amount of fitness glory can make up for a diet made of exclusively pizza, skittles and pinot noir. To help you build some positive food habits, you’ll receive a bad-ass nutrition e-course FREE as part of your membership. You also have the option of booking 15 minute laser coaching sessions to continue building nutrition habits. ALSO FREE because we love you so much!
Community- The community at CYH is a vital part of the experience. You’ll get to know the trainers and other Strivers.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A STRIVER
INSERT CYH CORE VALUES PIC
We believe that your personal values are the guardrails that help you stay on track in life. The CYH Team works to embrace our Core Values every single day by asking ourselves questions that represent those values. Questions like: What can I get better at today? How can I give my best today? How do I create fun?
We believe that being a true Striver means being clear about what you value, and then working every day to embody those ideals.
We invite you to try out our values, or create your own. You’ll quickly find that self-mastery is a vital skill on the road to health and fitness.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
“What do I wear?”
First and foremost, you should wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and that give you access to your full range of motion. For your feet, our strong preference is that you wear minimal footwear (clean sneakers with low heel lift, socks, or bare feet) so that you can feel the floor. If you’re curious about a brand, ask a CYH Team Member!
“What do I need to bring?”
Not much actually. Bring your water and a great attitude. And if you are the type that sweats a lot, a towel.
“Are gloves allowed?”
It depends! While gloves may spare your hands some calluses, they’re not the safest choice when it comes to maintaining your grip on the handle of a kettlebell. But if it will make a particular exercise better AND is safer, then go ahead and try them.
“What’s up with showers?”
You are welcome to use the showers at the Wah Lum Temple. Bring your own towel! Also realize that the Temple is in an…ahem...natural environment that is conducive to traditional Kung Fu and Tai Chi training. There’s no AC!
NAVIGATING THE CYH (a.ka. WAH LUM FIT) STUDIO
In case you didn’t notice already, the CYH Team is obsessed with you. Not in a creepy stalker way- in a friendly stalker way. We’re dedicated to knowing you better every time you walk through the door and creating a clean and judgement-free environment for you to chase your fitness dreams. We want to make sure you have a great experience every time you visit.
The guidelines in this section have been created to ensure that we set clear expectations for all Strivers about how we do things around here. We strive (see what we did there?) to make each guideline as simple and fair as possible, but it’s normal to have some questions. Don’t be shy! If there is anything we can do to clarify stuff in this handbook or improve your experience in any way, call Oscar at 407-796-1781 or email email@example.com.
To book a training session, go to our scheduling page HERE.
Our semi-private training sessions allow for 4 Strivers per session. When booking a session, you can see how many spots are available.
Our policy allows you to book a session anytime prior to 2 hours before the scheduled start time. For early morning sessions: Please don’t book your 6:30am session 2 hours before start time! If you are the only one booking for that session, the trainer may not be there!
Please don’t reserve more than one session for the same day, so that every Striver has an equal opportunity to plan ahead and so you can avoid becoming an adrenaline junkie. We promise that you don’t need to take more than one class daily to see results. In face, we suggest you have at least one or two days of rest per week to allow your body time to recover. If we notice you have overbooked, we may automatically cancel your additional reservations, which means we could end up cancelling the class you actually want to attend!
Early Cancellations: Sessions may be canceled with no penalty, anytime prior to 2 hours before the scheduled start time. 2 hours!! That is a pretty awesome policy, we know.
Late Cancellations: If you discover that you will be unable to make a session and it’s beyond the Early Cancellation period, we ask that you call or text the trainer for that session. Training schedule and trainer contact info will be posted at the end of each month for the following month.
No Shows: If you are a no show for a session, a Tibetan monk will have his (or her) right arm cut off. We promise to use a sharp blade, but it will be your fault. AND you will be charged a No Show FEE of $10 for each missed appointment.
Switching or Re-Scheduling Sessions: The same rules for booking sessions applies. You have 2 hours before the scheduled start time.
